Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless beef belly, skin removed
  • 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, minced
  • 1 star anise
  • 2 scallions, chopped
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • Chopped scallions
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, minced garlic, ginger, and star anise.
  2. Place the boneless beef belly into the bowl and ensure it is well-coated in the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  3. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Take the marinated beef belly out of the refrigerator and place it in a roasting pan.
  4. Roast for 1.5 – 2 hours until it reaches an internal temperature of 145°F.
  5. Increase your oven temperature to broil and brush the beef belly with any remaining marinade. Broil for 2-3 minutes until caramelized.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon juice, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
  7. Slice the roasted beef belly into thick slices, arrange on a serving plate, and drizzle generously with creamy sauce. Garnish with chopped scallions and sesame seeds before serving.
